Missed 1 Week

Have realized i've not update my blog for about 1 week already. Guess I'm jst not that diligent to update it everyday like how i always take my multi vit everyday.

Last week I successfully arranged a surprise birthday celebration for hubby. Well....hubby thought we were all jst gathered up having picnic on the park, but it was actually for his birthday. So happy....got sunburn at a shape of U-alphabet on my back, big red shape which has turned to black color and peeling now. hiks...

The weather was perfect on picnic day. Bright, sunny but not hot nor cold. Few days after that, the weather turned upside down. It's cloudy, cold and always looked like it's about to rain. All the squirrels hide up in the 'warm house' and haven't see them for 1 week already.

Funny enough, on last Sat, we actually saw them came out and running around. After Hub and I had our own Sezhuan Steamboat at home, I saw something ran across the side pathway. I went out to see what's that and there I saw a young coyote carried something in it's mouth up to the backhill. I guess it was a dead bird coz it's black. It cant be the squirrels coz the squirrels are brown, and i hope the bird was dead indeed.

But I was so afraid it was the squirrel. I followed to where the coyote went...and there I suddenly saw the 2 squirrels jumped around the trees around me (so near) like monkey. So ya.....pathetic day but quite fun. There I saw coyote just got its lunch and squirrels jumping around like monkey.

After the super spicy sezhuan steamboat, I made Vietnamese Spring Roll for hubby. Never eat one of those before, but tried to make it after much googling for the recipe. Apparently it's very easy and super healthy. Hub also made an oatmeal cookies for us. It's also so yummy.

On Sunday, I was somehow got itchy and inspired to make a mini sponge cake from this Indonesia recipe book that Hub bought from indo. It's a recipe for those street snacks (straight translations). It turns out so yummy and soft. Hub and I love it so much. For me it's a little bit too sweet, but Hub think it's jst nice. I've actually reduced the amount of sugar. The recipe required 550grams of sugar and i just used about 300-350grams. But....the sponge cake didn't rise up nicely and evenly. Some of them lopsided than the other.

I've later realized that sponge cake i just made is actually the type of sponge cake the Chinese used to put for pray during Chinese New year. I dunno what it's called, but i remember they have this brown and white color type of sponge cake that open up like flowers. I remembered my mom always make that during CNY and on some praying rituals. Gosh..so happy I could make that coz i really love that type of sponge cake that I could only eat once a year. Whenever it's time mama has to make for CNY, I'd ask her to make a big giant size one and many2 small sizes for me alone ^^
